Hello there, I am new in this forum, I just want to know, what's the rifle caliber you are using for the hog hunting? And anyone use AK47 for hog hunting? I knew lot of people use SKS for the hog hunting, but didn't heard anyone using AK47 hunting the hog.

Thank you for your time.

An AK will work if it's accurate enough. The caliber (7.62x39) is a good pig killer at typical pig hunting ranges. I've used that caliber, 7mag, 300mag, .243, .308, 7mm-08, 6.8, .30-06...you get the idea! They all work. If you have any doubts just aim for the ear.

Thanks, I think Ak should be ok if you walk into the woods and saw the hogs in 30yards. I got a Ak47 with 6X scope, I think I can put down the hog in 100yards at no problem.

of course, my 308 can do better.

2 dogs and a nice heavy sharp knife...saves ammo $

or when I am feeling insecure like some loud mouth know it all wannabe ballistic experts that remind me of paper punchers I break out a 300 wsm or other latest greatest cartridge that the gun and ammo companies have convinced the above noted folks that they must have it...you gotta hand it to those companies they adhere to the old adage a fool and his money are easily parted.

Actually my calibers of choice would be .308 or .35 rem., but as noted about the 7.62 x 39 should get be fine.

Thanks, I like 308 more than 7.62X39.

243, enough fire power for anything that one can hunt in Texas.

If that is the case, what couldn't you hunt with a .243?

There is a rather long list of exotics I wouldn't shoot with a .243. The .243 is getting out of it's league, when animals start exceeding 300 lbs live weight, never mind a 3000 lb Bull Bison.

If a 5.56mm out of M16 will drop a full grown water buffalo I am pretty sure it will drop a bull bison. Last I heard a 5.56mm is smaller than a 243. up
