Are they worth messing with?

From what I heard in a recent conversation with a friend in Olney, no they really are not worth messing with, won't bring enough to pay for your gas to haul them.

Now thats good information right there!

If you have access to keep a bunch on the property where they are caught before hauling them, absolutely it pays off, especially if you are trapping those that are over 100lbs. and up! Keep the small ones to eat and share with friends.

I have a freind that is a buying manager for Texas for a wild hog slaughter house. he is the one that helps set up the buying stations and buys the hogs from the stations. I haven't checked the prices in a couple of weeks but last I checked it was 28 cents a pound with a 4 dollar head preminum for 100-200lbs. Different buying stations have different prices( They are the middlemen) call around and get the best price.

Wonder how the increase in gas prices will effect these, it still will cost MORE to get them there then what you would get for them. Plus with it getting HOT durring the day they need to keep the stations open at NIGHT so you dont have overheated, half dead hogs durring the day.

How much to they usually pay for hogs?

we took in three one time to Goliad. two weighted in at 160 and one was a little over 225. we made $100. of course that was about 5 years ago when gas was $1.40 a gallon.

A lot of it depends on the individual station.

You go to one that does not get in a lot of pigs you might do better.

Go to one that pulls in a bunch of pigs and theprices will probably reflect that.

Kim Rife at Jermyn is who Lora and I deal with and he does a lot of business so I am not sure what he is paying at this time.

I sell feral hogs and for a 200 lb u will get a little less than $100 but for a 60lb hog, u will get about 7 bucks. However, most of the time it is worth taking them to the sale barn.

not in operation the last time i went through, couple months ago

they buy them at the gonzales sale barn where i live, they also buy them at a place outside of hallettsville texas that i have gone to.

sale barns in south texas..well further south usually buy hogs...up this way they dont

If you live close enough to Ft. Worth and have quite a few you can take them directly to the slaughter house. Call (817)980-3125 P.S. C&L in Cherokee county is closed

I'm new to trapping but was wondering if you need some sort of license to transport ferel hogs?

Not unless you ship across state line or to non approved holding facility

FYI Your not supose to keep live feral hogs more the 48 hours and do not turn them loose.
