My buddy has an XD subcompact, but would prefer a pistol with a slimmer design. Excluding 1911s, what's the best semi auto 9mm or .40 (under $600.00 new/used) with a slim design for concealed carry?

I like the Kahr CW40. Kahr offers more expensive options than the CW series, but I don't see any real advantage they have over a CW40 with night sights. Night sights are available through Kahr.

I used to carry a Kahr PM40 all the time. It's a great little pistol. The PM series are a little smaller than the CW line, and have a few other upgraded features. The CW is a little taller, and about the same thickness. I now carry a G29 in 10mm daily, and like it a lot better.

Can't go wrong with the Kahr, light weight, slim, and reliable. I've got a P9 but wouldn't mind getting the smaller PM9.

I would be afaid of hitting a bystander after blowing up the bad guy. oh ya, and I carry a Glock 23 .40 and its comfortable for me.

I haven't given that much thought actually. I think if you have to use a pistol, you are under gunned anyway. So, I'd prefer to have something that is more powerful than less powerful.

Kahr PM9 and they have a TP9 with longer bbl and holds more rounds. Single stack magazine, very slim.

To the OP I also vote for a Kahr very slim guns, it would be my second option only to a 1911 for a slim carry.

Whatever you can carry and conceal comfortably, Fits your hand and you shoot the best with.

I just heard that Sig is introducing a 9mm on the P238 platform at this year's Shot Show that would be a very interesting weapon.

That is the gun! Big +1! I love the Glock pistols, shoot them in competition, and shoot them well. The 29SF (short frame) fits like a glove.

S&W 3953...3rd Gen, DAO, 9mm, single-stack goodness. I picked one up (former Prince Georges County, MD surplus) on Gun Broker as a summer-time alternative to G19. It's very clean, a very nice shooter, and cost right at $400 with original box, paperwork and one magazine. I may replace all of the springs and put some night sights on it at some point, but it's definitely a keeper.
The lone disappointment has been finding a high-quality kydex OWB holster and mag pouch for it while waiting for a VM-2 from Milt Sparks. I've got some feelers out and a couple of leads on kydex, but it looks like I'll probably end up going with leather for OWB, as well.

Ruger LC9 is very slim...0.90" wide
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Kahr MK9 Elite03 with Crimson Trace laser grip in an in waist band holster. Its heavier than the PM9, so not a true pocket gun, but so much more comfortable to shoot. I had an MK9 and sold it, bought a PM9 sold it, and went back to the MK9. I would say just about any Kahr is a decent choice for carry.

MK9. I would say just about any Kahr is a decent choice for carry. I cannot personally recommend any Kahr. The MK9 I owned was a turd that would not fire a complete magazine without some kind of failure. Their customer service was top notch however.

I had a couple issues for about 100 or so rounds with my PM9. But both mk9s I have owned have been flawless from the first day. My current kahr is alot like my old G19 in that I can feed it just about any ammo and it goes bang everytime. The one ammo it doesnt like is Tula. But my CZ P01 doesnt like that either so I cant really fault the MK. Even the PM9 was totally reliable after a break in period. I guess you just had the misfortune to get hold of a dud. But I think Kahr guns are still a really solid line of guns.
