Excellent to hear the battery packs work as advertised, and I'm looking forward to the kill videos smile

So far it has worked flawless. Pretty out of the way when on the scope, been using the remote too, pretty nice.

Just doing it for fun now.

I know I'm late to the party, but I use a 12 volt feeder battery and it works great. Certainly less expensive. If I'm in a blind I just set the battery out . If I'm walking around I have the battery in a backpack and feed the wire around to me. By keeping the battery off the gun you aren't maneuvering that extra weight.

as for DVR's, this is what I use:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-5-LCD-Portable...=item564f12d73b

basically its the same thing as the Yukon MPR, though this one is an upgrade, I know, I wasted my money originally on the MPR then bought one of these, same thing, made in china lol...

I keep both, built a cable for my L3 Thermal-eye X150 monocular, so can record from it also

Hey Dave, I believe that is the Angel Eyes KS-650M which is the same one that I use.

The only downside is that it doesn't record audio.

If someone can find a unit that has all the same features AND audio for about the same money (75.00) then that would be killer!

Anyone....

Leave it to the Chinese to clone the MPR a few different ways using the same case body for the mini-DVR.

My unit which I purchased from a U.S. retailer in New Jersey definitely doesn't record audio. Here is a teardown review on the KS650m and he has the same findings - no internal connections for audio.

So if you could see if there is a different model number designation on yours that might explain it.

It does suck making silent videos.

i've heard of some people getting units that don't record audio, so have to watch descriptions, even the angel-eye, which has several version, has some that record and some that don't, mine records and when i bought it was $98, can be had for less now...

on the unit I listed, I didn't buy from that seller, so best to ask 'does it record audio without an external mic, does it have a built in mic?'

Ben, I will look at the model number on mine, I leave the cheap stuff in my trailer at the lease so will have to look next week and get back to you. I seen tons of different configured dvr's on ebay, I bought mine directly from china, as well as a bunch of other people on the texas boars forum, there is a huge thread on the n550 and then gets in to dvr's, etc.

I am pretty sure all of the DVRs record audio, it's just a matter of whether or not they have an external mic. If you are not getting audio in your recorded videos make sure you are using the Audio Video cable and not just the video cable. You will have to get an external mic for it to work this way and in the long run because they are so cheap it's probably best to just buy a new DVR and use the other one for video only.

Exactly, which is why it would be nice to find a cheap (less than $100.00) option that is guaranteed to have an onboard mic.

I am running an external mic with my KS650m but it is another wire in the way and unfortunaley, like some others, it is my second DVR that I bought and still haven't found a sure lock on a cheap all in one.

Thx Bearclaw and Dave for the info!

I run purely a video cable, RCA from the digisight to the 2.5mm 4 pole connector on the mini DVR, my DVR's record audio from an internal mic on the DVR.

The issue I have seen, I have ones that record audio without an external mic, as do many other people I know. Then there were versions that somehow do not record audio.

I used 'ask a question' on ebay of several vendors and asked if their dvr's record audio internally, that I do not want to run an external mic, that I will only use a device that is connected only for video. I got a response from this seller:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261029179852&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

"hi,Dear buyer
Thanks for your letter, This camera kit can record video, and this video also with voice.
best regards
aimee"

Did this forum remove the Edit feature on posts.....

Anyway I forgot to post the teardown video link above so here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbKCmM8cf4M

At minute mark(s) 4:30 and 15:00 he demonstrates that the unit doesn't have the components to record audio.

As Dave states above you can try and sort that out ahead of purchase incase you get a non-mic version well at least you would have some leverage to return it at a small loss (shipping).

yea i notice the edit feature is missing

good video, I know its seems some come with it, some don't

I also noticed something, the KS-750M, at first I thought it was just listed wrong, but sure enough when you looked at the photo's you will see the designation in the back/inside of the unit, this unit does say it has an audio recording mode:

I noticed on a couple of the cameras I bought that in order for the audio to work, you have to leave the battery compartment door open. If it is a waterproof model, the membrane muffles the sound. With the door open, it allows sound to get to the internal microphone.

The search continues then for a cheap model that is guaranteed to record audio.

On another note: I found out this weekend just how handy it would be to have more than 1 DVR available on a hunt.

I was woke up to the statement "Pig out front" and as I gathered myself to spot the shooter and record the video for him from my gun I couldn't remember where I had put the DVR.

Well I didn't want to hold him up so he busted that pig, we didn't get it recorded and I found the DVR later where I forgot I had put it for safe keeping.

Need one in every hunting location wink

I'll check my unit next week Ben, hope I can identify a unit that has audio. I'll email my contact in China and ask what models for sure record audio standalone.

I have two units for a reason, I built a cable for my thermal monocular, L3 Thermal-Eye X150, it can record audio. I would like to have it on the tripod and recording while I'm also recording from the N750. that would be a cool combination video

Sounds like you just need a camera guy, I'm game smile

Wish we could get a hog rich enviornment and 4-5 pulsar hunters for that kind of video.

My lease doesn't have the hog population or the guest agreement to support the digital fantasy smile
