I maintain at least 4 broke pointers and a couple of yearling pointers. Will provide dogs, not interested in shooting any quail. Also train some on the side.

What part of the state are you in?

I might be able to work something out with you come January in the NW part of the state, we are covered up with birds but no dogs!

I'm going to make my first trip to Matador this season. How is the quail hunting there?

We hunt the Turkey to Estelline (just north of Matador) area each Thanksgiving without a dog and here is how I rate it:

3 Years Ago - Horrible
2 Years Ago - Good
Last Year - Excellent

This year should be excellent as well. My friends uncle's are cotton/wheat farmers and we just hunt places around the fields. We got about 75 quail in 2 days. We also see deer and hogs while hunting. Take a pistol for the hogs if you want.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the last 3 years are about like it was every where else.

My lease(2300acres) is about 25 miles from the Matador and would be interested after deer season. This year we have a lot more quail than last year and all I have is a 1 eight year old shorthair.

Considering we busted 10 plus coveys in a day without a dog out there last year, you should have no problem quail hunting. We did have 5 to 8 people walking a line. I don't know what brush you have but that is a ton to quail hunt. We have about three coveys on our 160 deer lease less than 100 mile of Dallas so it should be great this year. Let me know if you need any help??

Diehls,
My place borders the Matador WMA. We've got tons of quail and no dog. I would definetly be interested in having you out there around Christmas time if you're available.
