Guys im in dire need of some new waders before big duck season starts. And I've been looking at the macks brand neopreen waders. But i can't decide on what weight to buy. I've always owned 5mm and have never been too cold but I've been hot in them a time or two. 5mm are heavier and harder to move in....but i never get cold. I know i can always put more layers on under the 3mm ones on underthe cold days. My question is..... How many of y'all that hunt north of hillsboro use 3mm waders all season? Im leary of getting the 3mm and constantly being cold or wearing as many layers as the little brother on " a Christmas story". Any input would be helpful.

Get the 3mm and a pair of fleece wader pants. The fleece wader pants will even keep me warm with breathables.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

X1000000 on the Breathables/Cabelas Dry plus styles. IF you are in the panhandle then maybe go with 3.5mm. I just cant see it being cold enough to need 5mm in this state.

I used breathable everyday last year only because I did not have any neoprene, but I like the neoprene when it is in the 20s or lower. I wore the Cabalas Dry plus when it was in the low teens last year and I thought my waders were going to crack. This year I will be getting me a pair of neoprene (3.5m) for the cold days, it is good to have both, but if I had only one pair all season breathable for sure!

Breathables. You can always add layers, but you can't take any away with neoprenes.

I have the 3.5 and love them, I also have a pair of fleece wader pants when it gets real cold. Sitting in the boat they keep me warm.

I have 1600 gram 5mm neos that are fleece lined and I don't get hot. On the other hand I have a cold kitty and freeze...while my buddies are in UA cold gear and breathables.

So I think it just depends on the person...sounds like if you don't get cold easy then the 3mm is for you.

Im way to rough on waders and a material that lets moisture out but won't let it in sounds like some kind of voodoo. So breathables are a no go for me. What do y'all think about the macks 3.5mm waders? Does anyone have a pair?
