Well I got word today that Glock is having another recall on all Glock model Gen 4's except the 26 and 27. Anybody else heard anything or know why?

I have not heard that but will be more than happy to verify with their LE Division First thing in the AM.

Through my PD training officer, all it said was to call a phone number and or email them, and that the recall was for all Gen 4's except the G26 and G27. I don't know anything else

Well, the 26 and 27 as far as I know are unmodified Gen 3 uppers on a Gen 4 frame. Can anyone else confirm? I've heard of quite a few that are having issues with the Gen 4 19's stovepiping and ejecting straight back towards the forehead (3 friends have them, 2 have the same issues and co-workers of theirs are having similar issues as well).

I've notice my 22's have ejected straight back towards me too but I just figured it was something I was doing weird with my grip. I don't know if its done it every time I just noticed it a few times. They need your model number and serial number.

This is the number I was told to call and they have an automated message.

When they intialy made the release they tried to use the same spring on the .40SW and 9MM and most 9MM ammunition was not powerfull enough to cycle the weapon properly, that was corrected going to a caliber specific spring guide rod combination.

I just got a Gen-4 35 and had no malfunctions or problems on either of my range trips.

I will see what I can find out in the AM

My .40 glock 23 is under recall for the recoil spring assembly. They are shipping me a new RSA. My 23 seems to fire fine though, I wonder what the defect is.

I have a Gen 4 17 that I picked up late last year and have had no issues.

Just got off the phone with Glock's LE Division, The Recall is basically a continuation of the original guide rod problems stemming from them trying to use the same spring guide rod assemblies for parts commonality.

While they are saying all Gen-4 guns are affected including the 26/27, yours may or not be due to a couple of factors.

1. If your gun is of new manufacture within the last couple months. Even if you purchased your gun yesterday that does not mean it has not sat in storage since last year so call just to be safe.

2. You dealer may have already replaced the guide rod assembly, again it is a very quick call to check.

3. Yours may have already been sent in/replaced. Again its a quick call.

When you get ready to call the number is 1-770-432-1202 ask to speak with someone concerning the Gen-4 Recall

Have the model, general date of purchase, serial number, and guide rod removed from the gun to verify part numbers

To remove the guide rod,

Remove the magazine
Verify the weapon is unloaded
Double check the weapon is unloaded
With the magazine out and ammunition free of the work area
Release the slide forward
Point in a safe direction and squeeze the trigger (de-cocking the striker)
pull back 1/8" on the slide and pull down both release tabs
push the slide forward off the gun.
With the slide off push in on the guide rod and pull out of the gun.

The number your looking for is on the flat metal surface that rests again the barrels locking lug.

It should be a series of 2-4 numbers pressed in.

If your gun is affected the will mail out a replacement. As soon as I get the email from them that contains the bad guide rod part numbers and the good guide rod part numbers I will post it up.

My spent casings were making over 10 foot wall and hitting the guy next to me at the range, but it does not sound like an actual defect does it? He was a little ticked but seemed to understand I had no control over it.

Smurf, I got my serial number, but when I broke down the pistol there were no numbers on the recoil spring assembly. I looked everywhere but couldn't find it, maybe it is an after market spring since I didn't buy the gun new I'm not sure if it had been switched out. Are the new Gen4 glock RSA metal or plastic like the Gen3?

Never mind doesn't matter, they don't ask for part number on the spring, just ask for serial and model and then name, address, and phone number. Thanks for the heads up again.

I never understood why glock changed the recoil system from one that has been a proven performer. If its not broken......

If it does not have a number it definitely needs to be swapped out, the Gen 4 is suppose to be a double capture spring with an inner guide rod made of polymer.

I'm not sure why they didn't ask for the part number, they asked for them on every one I had instock. But sounds like they got you fixed up.

Glock recommends replacing the gen 1-3 guide rod spring assembly every 3K rounds through the firearm. That's not saying that it will fail at 3K, and yes I know folks with 3 times that on the originals but it's what they recommend.

The new double capture was suppose to extend that life and handle the constant use of +p and +p+ defense ammunition in use by most LE Agencies. As well as improve feeding reliability if there is such a thing.

That being said, I'm with you the original worked fine, and if it was to wear out its a 5 dollar part, why sweat it.

Yea they got me fixed up thanks, I did a little research and I guess mine was one of the first ones, from what I gathered it went blank, 01, 02, 02-1 or something to that effect.

My 226 had problems at 112 rounds. I'm sorry, that was 112,000 rounds. My bad.
