Myself and Silver Creek Guide Service managed to get Mitch his first turkey this morning. Things started out kinda slow though and I have to admit I was pretty nervous we weren't gonna get it done.

No luck at spot number one but we shot the breeze and found out the Mitch is addicted to waterfowling (good company for Jeff and I) and he is also an avid bowhunter. Anyway around 9 we picked up and moved around doing a little runnin and gunnin to no avail. So we went back to the place where we knew birds frequented during the early part of the afternoon. Problem was that Mitch had to be back at his place by 1pm at the latest to get outta town. So the birds had better come in early today or it was gonna be a bust.

So we set up a jake and two hen two hen dekes and Mitch and I got to callin' (he was actually pretty decent with his slate). Sat there for an hour and all we saw was one roadrunner. Then Mitch spotted two black dots on the horizon about 300 yards away and moving towards us. They came all the way into within 15 yards of the dekes before moving off, so we kept callin and then we heard the unmistakable gobble of a mature tom.

I sound off on the box call and the tom talks back as he is gaining ground. Suddenly there he was, coming straight at us from the same location that the hens did. 300 yards and closing fast. Hit him with a subtle cluck two more times and then set the call down and picked up the camera as he was locked in on the decoys. The rest is history...

Shotgun shells, broken arrow shafts, beer cans, dried blood and a dog bumper...Not sure it was what he expected, but I think it put him at ease
