Should be drilled and tapped from the factory.

As far as I know Rossie's are not drilled and trapped for scope. They are a top eject just like the old Winchesters. Thats means you will have to side mount the scope, with requires drilling and tapping the side of the receiver, or mount a scout type set up with will require a rail and drilling and tapping the barrel.
A Marlin 1894, or a Winchester 94AE, come drilled and tapped for scopes.

yes have .357 and you will have to have it drilled and tapped on the side of the receiver. nothing on top for it to grab.

I had to do the same to mount a peep sight.
you also have to dissasemble all the guts so you can drill it.
you can do the disassembly at home, then hand it over to a smith.

and you should mount the scope fairly high to be able to access the breech.
Spent case ejection is vigorous...probably really ding cases off the scope.

Personally, for a scoped Lever gun, a Side eject is way better. Dont thing you would be happy with a scope on this gun.

OTOH, put a peep sight on it, and come shoot silhoutte with it smile

Forum says "Veteran Tracker". I could not track a garbage truck into a fireworks factory.

I had this exact rifle. A scope would be a PITA. If you want a scoped .44 mag. get a Marlin.

Yep, value wise you'd be much better served with a Marlin, though I have a soft spot for Winchester Trappers. I can't get around to putting a scope on a levergun though, just seems like Nikes on a racehorse. Might make him run better but it just doesn't look right...

If you are going to scope one go for the Marlin.

My favorite Marlin

Limited 1894 SS 16 inch barrel laminate stock. Has a 2-7 leupold. With my eyes a scope does help seeing the target better.

Get a Marlin. It is much easier and better rifle.
