My review of the Kill light XLR 250

I played around with a couple of low-end night vision scopes and decided if im going to get in the sport of night hunting, its better to buy top of the line then waste your money on junk.

However I do not have a wad of cash floating around. I looked into several other options. I read alot about the Nd3, but was not sold on the idea of it not working in cold temperatures as some reported. And not to mention the price…It is a little to expensive.

I then looked into the Kill light manufactured by Elusive Wildlife. I wanted the best so I opted for the XLR 250 over the 100. I couldn’t decide what color to get in red or green?
So for around $200 I went with the “Pro Pack”. It included the Flash light, 3 LEDS (green, red, and white) wall charger, car charger, 2 different configuration scope mounts, and 3 different switches. (A push button switch, pressure switch and a toggle switch). And last but not least a sticker of Elusive Wildlife

Upon receiving the light, the packing was nicely put together. The actual flash light looked and appeared to be manufactured to great quality. The scope mounts where kind of cheese.

I was not concerned about the scope mounts. I bought a picatinny flash light adaptor and mounted it on my AR15 forearm with a red dot sight. Mounted on the weapon added no un-cumbersome weight and felt nice. Since I didn’t want to deal with wires I went with the toggle switch on the rear end, a simple push on/off easy accessible for my thumb.

I took the light out on Friday night. I was a little worried the full moon would affect the range.

All I can say is WOW! This thing is really cool. I was able to see my feeder @ 200 yds.

I did manage to spot light a deer and it didn’t seem to mind until it looked directly at me before she bolted. This was with the green led. In fact nothing seemed to be bothered by it if I kept the eyes in the Halo.

I then mounted on a scoped weapon. Through my 14X power Nikon I was impressed! It looked even better then my junky expensive Gen1 night vision scope.

I used it to scan CRP fields and was able to spot eyes over 200+yds.

I didn’t have a chance to switch between the different LED colors the “Pro-Pack” came with. The green suited me just fine!

I give it 2 thumbs up! It was a very cool toy to play with! And a most have for night time varmint hunters.

Thanks for the review Cowdog. I asked in another thread about these lights, but never got a response......is the beam width adjustable? If not, how wide is the beam at 50 yards, 100 yards, 150 yards? Also, is beam location adjustable? I am just wondering if the beam would be centered for a 50 yard shot as well as a 100 or 150 yard shot? Thanks

No the beam is not adjustable. I was concerned too about this during my initial home test. Once in the field it didn’t phase my mind. It worked very well. The beam diameter is consistent and centered for 50, 100 and in my opinion 200(but that’s pushing it). The surrounding halo is nice and even to spot close targets. The concentrated beam in the center is enough to light the scope and appeared to be very consistent in diameter. When I night time varmint hunt the furthest I have ever shot is less than 100 so it works for me.

In my opinion I would save the extra 50 dollars and go with just the green light. But then again I haven’t tested the red!

I can’t wait to test his unit out in extreme dark conditions. Like I said I did this over the weekend under a full moon. And it blew my mind!

I forgot to mention the unit did come with 2 batteries re-chargeable in the “pro pack”

If you’re ever in Fort Worth I would be happy to show you.

i have tried the red and it doesn't seem to reach as far as the green. the green does create more shadows than the red. extreme dark conditions: no problem. i have a cheaper low light 30mm scope and i can see plane as day with it.

i did like it better mounted on the forend/barrel better than mounted on the scope.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it will do the job just fine. I have had one of the bigger (Night Blaster) scope mounted lights for years...it works great, but does add quite a bit of bulk (not weight) that you have to be careful not to bang on blind windows, etc. It has windage and elevation knobs that allow you to center the beam at different distances - which is what gave me concern about a light that you can't adjust the beam location.
Sounds like the xlr 250 will do the job. Thanks

I have a had a XLR250 on the barrel of my AR for a few months now, it is legit.
I also have a 100 mounted on my bow and it works great as well.

I also agree with mounting it on the forend of the gun, as I did not like it mounted on the scope near as much.

I got my XLR250 last week, used red in conjunction with a red spot last week and it works great. Sucker is bright. Now, let's see how she holds up to my abusive tendencies.

Order direct from Elusive Wildlife

There are also a few stocking dealers. I saw a couple in the display case at All Star Archery in Dallas a few days ago.

are you asking about where the light is pointing while shooting or weight on the barrel?

part one: i feel the barrel mount does throw the center of the lights beam off to the side a bit but i think it is better since it is not aim directly at the target and puts it in the outer band of the light.

part two: my gun is heavy any way and i use a bipod so weight is not a factor, at least for me. the light is light anyway.

Hey cowdog, thanks for the review. Be sure to try the red led. I have the "hawglight destroyer" in red, and it's amazing. I have held it on a buck for several minutes, and he never bolted. Same on hogs, they act like nothings on them. I shot a hog last night at 190 yards. I could see him well enough to I.D., that's all I need. Happy Huntin.

Umm, is there a question in there? Did you revive a 2.5 year old thread for a reason, or are you just bored?

Good friend of mine bought me one. I have the green. It's got some kills under its belt. I love it. Just got the stabilizer adapter so I can retrofit to my bow without having to buy the xlr100
