We have been seeing lots more quail then normal around Graham. We have not hunted them hard at all since the early 90's, but with some controlled burns, hogs being kept in check and good rain as well as lots to eat we are seeing a big jump in the population.

Down in Cotulla area, that is another story, I am afraid all the rain we got down there will have caused problems for all the bobs and blues we have down there.

We have been seeing tons of quail this Fall. Saw a couple of hens yesterday with around 15 babies. Still really small babies. We have been undergrazing the ranch and have grass a couple feet tall. So, they should even survive my attempts of harvesting them.

The welcomed rains have been great for West Texas (near Midland) and the quail are thick. I saw a blue the other day that looked like a prarie chicken! Should be a great year.

Here in Weatherford,I am seeing more quail and also hearing them. When my dog and I go walking in the morning, it has been a regular event to flush out some quail.
For a number of years, there were none to be found in the area, I let my land go wild to encourage the quail to come back.

Sweetwater seems to be covered in quail this year. I can't wait for the first frost. There were a lot out there last year but it's going to be the better this year. Hard to imagine. Got the gun oiled and 3 cases of shells.

Here is what a biologist at TP&W was quoted as saying about this year's quail season and I have seen more quail this year than I have in a long time-

FORECAST 7/04
"Quail season looks excellent! A prolonged breeding season is continuing due to a relatively cool summer with abundant, widespread rainfall. This will be the best season since 1991".

Never pointed a gun at a quail but I sure would like the opportunity to. I'm sure they hunt as well as they eat.

I love to quail hunt, hate "taking the gun for a walk.."

I need to hook up with some fellows that quail hunt, the ones I know hunt or have hunted them for years, are either dead, or quit all together.

However, my buddy leased some land in the panhandle, 3000 acres I think for quail hunting and he has 5 dogs.

The only thing more beautiful than watching an experienced bird dog go "birdy" and lock down on point is watching a bull elk stretch his neck out and let out an ear piercing bugle. I used to have one of the best dogs a man could ask for. He showed me thousands of quail in his time. I paid him back by taking excellent care of him until his passed at the ripe old age of 22.

I've hunted quail and pheasant for the last 20 years exclusively in Kansas. In fact, I don't even know where to go in TX to hunt them, so if anyone ever needs company on a hunt.......I'm your Huckleberry .

Hey, Guy went right through Larned, Ks the other day on the way up to Kirby's to pick up another dog. We have a bunch of quail out here, more than last year and it was good.

Took Earnest hunting the other day, he's not a bad shot. Ask him about the over head shot off the bucket he made.

I will take you and Earnest quail hunting this winter after dear season is over.

Our lease is covered with Quail. Saw one covey with over 100 birds in it, a few with over 50 and some smaller groups. Three hatches this year. Our lease is 15 miles north of Childress. We have 1200 acres and 600 of it has been in CRP since 1986. It is quite a sight.
