Well Uberti is making them for Cimarron, therefor Cimarron is basically playing a middle man and putting extra mark up on the guns. Hence normally the Cimarron is normally higher than the Uberti. Cimarron doesn't manufacture any guns, they do buy from at least one other Italian manufacturer two but the revolvers and lever guns come from Uberti. Except the .22 Plinkster which is a pretty crummy gun.

the way i understand it is that uberti guns are made and assembled in italy by uberti, now owned by berreta. Cimarron guns main parts (barrels, frames, cylinders, receivers, etc) are made by uberti, and then custom finished with higher quality internal parts. According to what i have read the cimarron's are supposed to have better springs and custom tuned actions. They are also made to different specs. They stamp the guns with original markings, etc Thats why they are more expensive. Uberti has very poor springs..in particular the sear/bolt spring. They are very thin and bend and wear out very fast. This can be fixed by ordering a colt brand sping from brownells and replacing it. I replaced the trigger, cylinder hand, mainspring, bolt, sear/bolt sping in my uberti with aftermarket better quality stuff. The only modifications i had to make was to file the cylinder hand a little and to file the trigger down to fit in the trigger guard on my 1873 cattleman.
If i were to buy again..i would buy cimmaron. My uberti is nice, but It did wear out fast. The trigger sear wore down first. I was able to refile it once, but the trigger was such soft metal that it would not last long before rounding off again..Which made the gun unsafe...because the trigger became a hare trigger. Just over a pound pull..Not good. All this was fairly easy too...as I am not a gunsmith at all, but I have taken every firearm i own completely apart just to understand it better and know how to work on it.
Edited to clarify: I believe Uberti also makes the Cimmarons parts (not aftermarket). Just to different specs than the Uberti makes their own. Feel free to correct me on all this if I am wrong. This is just how it was explained to me by a guy in Fredericksburg,TX that works at a local gun shop that sells the Cimmarons.

no, i have not used any of them, but i hear they are good. Uberti makes some of them for cimmaron, and some other italian companies make the others. i know nothing of them. Hey, dont get me wrong on the uberti's though. I really like mine and it has taken probably 5000 rounds or more through it and is still working really well. I only had to replace the sear and bolt spring, trigger, and hand after alot of use. Since i have never used the cimmaron, I cant really comment on their quality. This is just what i have read and been told. If i bought a cimmaron, i would probably replace the spring with a colt brand spring as well right off the bat. All in all, Cimmaron and Uberti are both going to be much better than the originals were back in the day. Originals colts were notorious for worn parts and needing to be repaired as well. The modern steels are much stronger..the bluing is much more durable, and parts are more readily available. You might check into how easy it is to obtain parts for the cimmarons. If you shoot it enough..it will need to be repaired eventually. Its a single action design thats almost 150 years old. They were not perfect. Uberti parts are easy to come by. Brownells.com has them available at http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/schematics/ When i was looking to replace some of those parts in my uberti, i called cimmaron and the tech told me that some cimmaron parts will not work in uberti guns and vice versa...So there is some difference in the design of the guns i guess that would not allow the parts to be interchangeable. You might call cimmaron and ask them how easy it is to get ahold of parts such as springs, screws, bolts, cylinder hands..etc..because those are the most likely parts that will wear out. this is a great book for doing it yourself repair of these guns. http://www.amazon.com/Gunsmithing-Guns-O...3149&sr=8-1

I had a Cimarron revolver for awhile. It was a real quality piece of equipment. I'd buy another Cimarron in a heartbeat.

ok, here they are.... the top spring (silver is colt) the bottom (blued) is uberti. You can see the difference in the springs. The colt spring had wider arms, the metal is a little thicker, and has a solid construction where the screw hole is. The uberti spring is thinner, narrower arms, and has a cutout in the screw hole. This caused the spring to actually bend over time under pressure of the screw and then break due to metal fatigue. The colt spring is much better constructed and more durable. makes the bolt snap up to lock the cylinder at index much more reliably. I do not know what the cimmaron spring looks like in comparison though. Wish i did. on the following image, you can see where the trigger wore down. The metal is soft, and once worn, would slip off the sear on the hammer...Making the gun...in my opinion very dangerous when cocked. I filed this flat a couple of times and it worked for a while, but after a few times of filing it, it became shorter and made the bolt lock the cylinder before the hammer would lock into full c o c k. (spaced because it was censoring the word) Hard to explain what it was doing, but it was easy to feel when you cocked the gun. Now, i do not know if Cimmarons have these same issues or not..but Its my understanding that they are supposed to be better. but then again..both are manufactured by uberti....just different specs. hope this helps with your decision

ok, i read on another forum that cimmaron guns use springs from this company in their guns as opposed to using uberti springs. http://www.gunsprings.com/

uberti does make some of them for cimmaron. I know they make the lever guns, not sure about the others. Try giving them a call and ask in particular which rifle you are interested in. http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/ (830) 997-9090
