Great rains in the rolling plains, San Angelo to Guthrie and all in between. One of the roadside surveys that goes into the Texas parks and wildlife fall quail forecast came in the highest in the last 5 years. If they do not drown or become dreaded ducks or something else happen we should have a very good year. With this last rain the birds which are still paired and have not raised should have an excellent chance to raise some late chicks. This rain should also insure the growth of many late weeds and forbes that will provide excellent food and insects. I can hear the complaining now, too much cover .

The radar this morning was showing heavy rains in a pretty good line west of Abilene. I am not sure how much that area has received.

I wonder what impact these latest rains will have on the quail?
