Thanks for the pics, jrs

We once had plenty of horny toads here in northeast Texas, but like everything else, the fire ants has taken a toll. We see maybe one all year long if we're lucky...and that's if we're really looking for them.

cool pics jrs! Like Orn said, I can remember when those things were plentiful. I used to catch them frequently at my Grandma's house in Rowlett....but that's been many years ago and I haven't seen one since I was a kid.

Those are some awsome pics! Thanks for sharing. That brings back memories of when me and my brother were little running around catching those little suckers.

We also used to see a bunch of them. However, they disappeared long before we had fire ants. I also used to have a bumper crop of tarantulas and the 8 inch black centipedes. No idea what happened or where they went. Haven't seen them in over 20 years. Come to think of it, I don't see very many scorpions any more.

good lookin' reptile there...he seems mad ya got his pics lol wanted to remain illusive lol...we havnt seen any here in a couple years...fire ants got them bad, been trying to kill as many ant mounds as we see...but the orange oil is getting expensive....tip tho dont use reg molasses, get the dryed version-it disolves better.....if u need the fire ant killer recipe again just send a messege to me & i will send it

We see lots of them in the panhandle on our lease. Thankfully we see more of them than we do the rattlers.
Did you let the rattler go?

I leave the snakes alone. They gotta make a living too. Of course the day I step on one I'm sure I will be rethinking my strategy.

I don't mess with the blue indigo snakes, they will eat frogs, rats & RATTLESNAKES! Everything has to make a living but it sure will hurt stepping on one of those things or to have a bit on the hand. Destroys all your muscle tissue.

Great Pictures!

Even the one of the rattlebug.

Over the time we were doing our last hunt, we saw three different Horny Toads on the ranch.

My wife would love one (Horny Toad) as a pet. Is it legal to catch one and take it home?

there arnt many of them left, best to leave them alone...'sides they wouldnt survive as pets

we only mess with them to move them from harms way...so we dont run them over w/ the car or mower

Where was this photo taken, as in what part of the state? I grew up in New Mexico and we would see them all the time. I have not seen one in decades!

The pics are from southern Coleman County. It is only the second one I have seen in at least 20 years. When I was a kid growing up in Tyler they were everywhere. Handle them too roughly and they would shoot blood out of the corner of their eyes.

Ole Rip is either still in the wall or i think they got him out & he finally died. They still celebrate him tho.

jrs, here in the northeastern corner of Coleman county we used to have them in plenty but the last couple years we have hardly seen ANY at all.

JRS, thanks for sharing the picts. Definitely brings back memories of back home in West Texas. It's been over a decade since I've seen a Texas Horned Toad! Now the picts of the diamond Back and the Bobwhite - that I've seen recently.

WOW, great shot of the HT. Used to see a lot growing up in Tyler as well. The babies were about the size of a penny. Man, they were fast. My grandma kept them in her garden to eat the bugs. Got my butt whipped many a time for trashing the plants while chasing them.

I know out at the wife's family reunion South of Ralls, we see several every August..
Also, has anyone ever seen a "Mountain Boomer"? I know this is not the proper name for them, but it's a large lizard that runs on its back legs... And is very fast. The old timers out there in Ralls say they used to be everywhere out there, but we have only seen a few the last couple of years.
