Anyone hunt southeast of hamilton? How is the hunting? We just got a new lease there and it looks promising just wanted to see if anyone had some input in this area?

I dont have a map in front of me so I cant tell you which direction south of Hamilton we were, but I can tell you that we were just south of the Hamilton line in Lampassas County (Adamsville area).
We hunted there for 2 years and the hunting was great! Everyone saw deer every time we went out, and there were some very nice deer seen and taken on our place. It was one of the few places that I have hunted that I did not see the same deer over and over again. You just never could tell what might step out next. This area has great genetics, all the deer need is some age, which now that TPW has a restrictive antler program in place this should give the deer more time to put on some years.
We saw just as many 9 and 10 points as we did smaller 8 points and I even saw two 11 ponits on this place. Another guy shot a nice 13 point that I had been watching since late summer but opening morning he showed up at the wrong stand and I never got my chance at him.
Never saw many turkey and never saw a hog!

My cousin owns a place on the Leon River on the Hamilton/Coryell county lines. There are some good deer there but the hogs are really bad, I'm sure it's because of the river bottoms. A couple of years ago we killed 38 hogs in one day, got them bottled up in coastal field , didn't even put a dent in the population.

I have to agree, seems like a lot of deer/car hits in that area.

I bow hunt it only, could go with a rifle, but it is not a challenge. Lots of bucks on our place up to mid 130's, occasionaly 140, but with a rifle, it is not challenge at all. Poaching is a problem from time to time, but we are down there every thurs thru Sun. Lots of deer, if I was going to start with a bow, that would be the county.

I hunt there. Been hunting there for about 7 or 8 years. Love to deer hunt. Last year I shot 3, all the same day. My son bow hunted for the first time last year. The fella bordering my plave has about 2000 acres and he doesnt usualy lease it out but he did last 2 years. I forget his name but he is the president of the bank in Hamilton. Last year his hunters were shooting guns during bow season. If they do it this year I'm gonna call the game warden. His father in law, Mr Newman, has 900 acres across the road . The hunters there wont shoot anything unless its at least a 10 point. Not sure if they are leasing it this year. He has a lot of deer on his property. I leased mine one year but I'll never do that again.

yea i know what you mean last year we hunted in crockett,tx and all bow season it sounded like people were sighting in guns next us and ruined bow season if not all season. We had a place for 15years and our rancher sold out so my father and his buddies are looking for a place and wanted one close to us but they are few and far between. I am hoping that this place is managable for the next few years i think the only problem we are going to have is one our south west fence there is about 4 blinds within 150-200 yard area. But othere than that no hunting around us. If any of those guys have a place open let me know my father and his group of 4 are good guys to have around. Dont shoot many deer and very rarely even go but just need a place so that when they want to go they can and finiacially can help do year round feed and protien. Thanks for any info. Did your get anything one his first trip? I have been bow hunting for 6 years now and i got a 8 point under my belt and that is it. But it is exciting

he just missed a 12 point. He said he watched it for 30 minutes and when he went to shoot, his bow tapped the safety rail on the stand and made a noise and the deer took off. Those shots I was talking about wasnt people sighting in their guns....It was a single shot at 730 in the morning
