GSP, but then again I'm VERY biased, I own 2 and they are great dogs. Very versatile and will go to the ends of the earth to please you. My vet owns one of each and said the Weim is always very nervous and anxious. But that can vary from dog to dog. Both are great dogs, you can't go wrong.

Try to remember, there are reasons why the GSP is preferred by many hunters.

For hunting, GSP. For an everyday dog, Weims may be a little calmer.

What "great weim" did you come across? Great weims are not found in the local paper or for sale on a corner. Neither are GSPS either but a good gsp is much easier to find and the weims that hunt and come from good breeders are not easy to find.
I'll take a Black Female every time.

A weim with champion field lines/NAVHDA is going to cost about 1k. a GSP with the same background is can go for half that, something else to think about.

GSP for sure. If you get one from a good bloodline it will almost train itself.

If you bred any bred to a pointer and keep doing you will eventually get a birddog.
Tigger If it isn't white it is not a birddog.

I'll even promise not to rub it in here on the board if my "hog" dog out points your pointers.

You guys can show us rather than tell us by showing up at a NSTRA trial.

I would have to say it would be easier to find a good GSP for hunting than a weim of the same caliber. Not that you can't. I watched a 7 1/2 month old weimaraner doing blind retrieves and delivering to hand. Same dog was working on being steady to the flush, and doing a good job at it. I think she was the exception and not what you are going to find in most weimaraners. If you want to know where she was purchased and the training she has had I can find out for you. Just send me a pm. I don't know it for a fact, but I bet they paid quite a bit for her.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Save yourself some miles and stop in Seymore and talk to Charlie Rose if you want a hunting GSP. www.texasquail.com

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE
