Use both .308 and .243 - just depends on where, size deer and shooting distance.

If i'm shooting anything under 200yds I use my .243 with a Redfield 3x9 scope. If i'm shooting further than that I use a 7mag.

I tend to stay with 2 rifles... I use a Weatherby Mark V in 270 mag, with a 150 gr boat tail, great flat shooter And I use a Ruger M77 in a 300 Win Mag, shooting a 165 gr boat tail. Have had great results with both rifles, and when I head to Wyoming or Montana the 300 gets the nod.
In Memory of my 36 yr old nephew Paul Dobbins that lost his fight to cancer... Never GIVE UP !!! He fought it hard and was determined all the way to the end to beat it.

My 1964 model 70 Winchester in 30-06, with a 3x9. I shot 4 deer and a turkey with it last year and used 4 shells. The turkey took two, he was a tough 'ol bird. All the deer were neck shot, 1 eight pt., and three does. Good 'nuff fer me. My brush gun is my 870 express magnum with buckshot and slugs.
Hunting is more to me than Antlers on the wall. It's more about the memories you make, and sharing those memories with friends, and family.

I have 2 deer rifles, 30.06 w/6x24 Tasco and a 22-250 Varmit Special w/ 8x32. Haven't used my .06 in years and my 22-250 goes each year. Shots right below the base of the skull or in the ear, no running, no waste of meat and quick kill shot. Only one I use...oh, it'll reach out there and "touch" a coyote at 400 yards!

Yes it will and it if fun to shoot them that far as well. I got two in the same afternoon, one at 248 and the other at 432.....love the range finder, but love the 22-250 more for coyotes....The longest shot I have made at a deers neck with it has been about 150 and she dropped like a stone......

For me it has to be one of three..Ruger M77 in 280 Remington, Ruger # 1 in 25-06, or Marlin 444 for heavy brush.
Only two things in life worth waking up early for...hunting and fishing!!!

Mine is a Smith&Wesson 7mm mag topped with a Leopold Gold Ring. For does, I wait for a broadside, then shoot them in the neck, just below the spine. For bucks, I usually miss. I'm Born4Horns, just not Born2ShootHorns.
Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns!
