Always have a follow up shot ready and wait a few minutes after the hog goes down.Shot several and look dead and decide to get up and shoot with follow up.Good Point.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Well, the hunt I originally posted about ended with no dead hogs. But we went back to the same place again last weekend.

We put out some sour corn along with the regular corn from the feeder. Got in a double bull blind at about 7:30. Nothing at all came to the feeder till right at dark.

Just as it was getting dark, I saw a decent size black hog coming to the feeder. I got my daughter ready with the gun. We had decided to let her try for a shoulder shot since there wasn't much daylight.

The hog ate a couple bites and started walking away. I was a little worried, but he only walked about 10 feet and made his way back. Before she could get her scope on him he left again the other direction about 15 feet. Both times he walked away from the feeder he was out of sight just enough to keep my daughter from being able to scope him.

Once again, he came back though. This time he ate long enough for my daughter to find him in the sites and squeeze off the trigger. He dropped in his tracks. With the mixture of the angle he was at and the darkness, she actually shot him in the neck. It really wasn't where she was aiming, but oh well, she got him! First Hog ever for her and only the second animal she's ever harvested. We had a blast!

I made some breakfast sausage out of the hog and we are going to fry some up in the morning.

We didn't weigh him, but I am guessing about 125lbs. What do yall think?

take her shooting! so she gets used to the gun. heck you could even make a target that looks like a hog! then let her aim for the ear/neck/head! wouldnt be a bad thing.
