On a 150" or better buck on a low fenced lease? And how many of y'all have killed a 150"+ buck on a low fenced lease. Just curious how many big bucks are passed during a hunting career. Would love to see pics also of those harvested big bucks

I've had to pass on several over the past few years, but they are on the in-law's wildlife refuge.

I have seen multiple 150+, and a few B&C bucks on low fence, but we were only doe hunting, so I didn't exactly pass them, because I couldn't shoot them.
I have never shot a 150 before.

I have passed probably over a hundred 150's on low fenced property. I've also passed a bunch of 160's as well. If you want to kill 170+ deer you have to let some 160's walk. Here are two of my best.

I have killed a 152 on my ranch, I have never passed on one. Can't really pass on that kind of deer here, to much hunting pressure and the ranch is not that big. I wish I had a big enough ranch to pass on 150's

Nice bucks M16!
Stompy, do you have any pics and is your place in Breckenridge?

Killed one 150+ never passed one. Have seen some that were 150+ and did not get a shot off. We only have 363 acres to hunt off of so, when one is seen, it gets dead!!

I killed a 147 5/8 this past season on a low fenced ranch in the Hill Country. It was the biggest deer I have ever seen on our place. I have been hunting the place for 46 years, so for all intents and purposes, I may be done for the next 46 years.

Tye, yes my place is in Breckenridge. I do have pics but I'm new to the hunting forum and haven't learned to post them yet.

I killed a buck 3 years ago that scored 152.5 on a low fence lease outside of Woodson. This year I had the privledge to hunt south texas with a buddy who runs 5400 acres in the middle of a 24000 acre ranch. We were only shooting doe and spikes but I saw 150 inch plus deer every hunt. Other than that rare opportunity I have never passed on a deer that big.
IMO the quality of a deer for low fence operations have been diminished by TV and publication of all these huge deer. Where I hunt anything over 125 inches is considered a trophy to me. In south texas that wouldn't be the case.

I haven't broken the 150 mark yet, have gotten close, but have passed on several younger 150's in the last three years. I had a chance at a 6.5 154in 8pt that I hunted hard all year and blew it at 75 yards with a ML couple years back, and even passed on a 10, 12 that would of broke 160. unfortantley i know the score of the 8 b/c family memeber got him the week after that. Kind of have a thing for big heavy 8's.
speaking of M16 love the wide main frame 8!!

I figure I'll break 150 at some point. Deer need to learn to be cooperative!

Have passed on quite a few over 150 with the biggest being 165 inch at 3.5-4.5 yrs old. I saw him twice that year during the rut and never saw him after that and this will be the third year. I hope he is still out there, but who knows. I hunt a family place that is a little over 2000 acres. M16 said it best if you want to shoot a book deer you have to let the young 150's and 160's walk.

I agree 100%. But I figure that most people have either never seen a 150" let alone kill one. So when/if that buck shows up, he takes a dirt nap. It would be hard for me to pass up a 150"+ buck on a low fenced property especially a smaller place. Now if you had 3000-5000 acres, that would be a different story. I'm just seeing what size of bucks people have shot. It goes back to one of the other threads where an individual thought that 150" buck isn't like a holy grail. I have to disagree. Seeing and killing a 150" buck in my area would definately be a monster. Shoot, a 140"+ is even a monster.

I don't think it would have been 150, probably around 140, but I watched a buck on a ranch that was already sold. Told the ranch owner about it when I got back to the house and he said,
"Yeah, I've seen that deer. You probably should have shot him. He's old."
My biggest buck is a 128 8-pt, so needless to say, I was disappointed.
Also had a buddy get an opportunity at a free 140ish 9-pt this past season and he got the definition of buck fever. Just flat missed from about 90 yards. Never saw the deer again and it was killed a couple of weeks later.
150 is enormous in my opinion. The biggest deer where my land is are probably in the low 130s.

I was on a 6000 acre low fence ranch for a 3 day hunt where I could take 2 cull bucks, and 3 doe. I was also allowed to shoot a trophy buck if I wanted to but the cost was the same as the total for the other 5 deer combined. Anyway, we arrived on Friday after noon, and around 4PM headed out in the truck to look around. We had only gone about 1 mile on the dirt road, when a 160+ buck walked across the road about 25 yards in front of us, angling away, and paying absolutely no attention to the truck! I whispered "Stop, stop!" because my buddy driving had somehow not seen this deer. In the meantime, I jacked a round into my rifle, and rolled down the window (which was squeaky as hell) and found the buck in my scope. I watched him walk to a brushy fence line about 125 yards away, and he never seemed to even know we were there. I decided not to shoot him because of the money factor.
On leaving the ranch at the end of the 3 days, I mentioned all this to the ranch owner, and he said "Oh, you saw 'the old man'." I'm guessing that deer was senile, or completely deaf.
BTW, this was not a normal occurence for me -- I've never had anything larger than 120 in my sights before or since.

I have. My dad has. I have a friend who does on a larger (~2000 acres) low fence place west of Wichita Falls, and a friend who's done so on a place near Brady that I think is ~1500 acres.

I passed on these two last yr. several times. The first one has great mass and character w/ stickers and crab claws in the front. I was really tempted on him but, later in the season he got all broke up in the rut. The 2nd buck is a 6x6 that I think is going to be really nice this yr. Why did I pass on em? I have another place that is over run w/ numbers and 130-145 bucks down the road. I guess I just wanted to get some age on these and see what happens.

That's a monster, westtex. The buck in the first pic is actually a more impressive deer. That is a terrible picture of him. Got some great mass for a tx. deer. pretty sure both of these deer made it thru the season so its gonna be a fun yr. next nov. [quote=westtex75]
that's one heck of a buck...and varmint guard! yea the coons ate us out of house and home until we got out the welder and came up w/ that magnum varmit cage.

I saw this buck on Thanksgiving evening last year, I let him walk in hopes my dad would get a shot at him-but it didn't happen. Low fence lease in west tx Lost the lease though, so someone else gets to shoot him next year.
