This may not be the best place to ask about this, ( if someone knows a better forum for questions let me know ) but my 16 yr old son is looking at porn sites and lying about it. He has learned how to go to websites without it showing up in the history.I use firefox and Safari ( mac computer ) I found a site he forgot to close, but there was nothing in the history or on any search engines?? How can I back track all history or is there some other browser the kids go to that is undetected ??
He will be banned from the computer for now and be very limited from now on, but I need a good way to check up later. Not to mention my x wife when she comes over to visit. Trying to be a good dad here, and focus smarts to good things.
thanks

Can't you just set it on your privacy settings as to where anyone in household can and cant go???

I could lock everyone out but, He does homework/research etc. at times and I just want to learn how to look into all history to "police" his use. I don't have the time to stand over him. I want to trust him, but this stuff is tempting to kids. They just learn tricks to hide activity.

Go get a software called net nanny. It will either store or email you a list of all sites visited during a preset time frame. I have started using this at work and it is freaking awesome. You can password protect it so IF they find out its on the computer then they can't disable or do anything at all to it.

Or you could be glad that he's looking at porn instead of getting everything in the town knocked up. Just Sayin.

Give net nanny a try. It's well worth the money.

You can get something like net nanny, but if he is very computer savvy he'll have no problem getting around the firewall and covering his tracks. The internet has made porn easily accessible to everyone (every teenage boys dream come true), and the only sure fire way to stop it is to watch him.

In truth, I wouldn't consider it something worth getting upset over. I would wager that almost everyone on this forum watched/es porn. If you have a major religious objection to it, I understand, but you are almost assuredly fighting a losing battle.

Is this advice from experience or did you "read" it somewhere?

Kids are very computer savy . Dont underestimate the power of youth, lol. Some one said check his history, trust me there is no history... You can check the trash bin, most times every one fogets when they trash something Its stays in the trash bin. everything is available to them,EVERYTHING. You will need special software for what you want. Also dont forget the power of some good ol BS. Make him believe you got that PC on lock down, it will help for awhile.

Problem is that the kids can get around any internet security that is in place. They will find one of many outside proxies and use it. You can slow it down but ya aint gonna stop it. Sorry to say it.

As the admin. I set parental controls password protected. My Kid doesn't breath on mine that I don't know about.
