It is the same guy. Like I said, great bird dogs I suppose (cause that's who referred me to him) but lousy with retrievers.

First off it sounds like you have me confused with someone else perhaps. I don't think I have recommended anyone to James for retriever training. Until I stand corrected anyway...

Secondly James has a son that trains retrievers and don't know the first thing about his training skills nor whether James was actually the trainer in this circumstance.

I do know that if I had an issue with the dog he would be back at the kennel. If it a case where the dog wasn't being worked I would want to know why and asking when I'm getting my refund.

As others have been pleased with the success of collier kennels sometimes it is the dog and not necessarily the trainer. Not saying this in this case.

I wasn't saying that you referred me, but that a bird dog person did. sorry for the confusion.

he didn't. he gave me status updates that were obviously false.

James is a good guy and I am positive that he will make it right if he or his operation is at fault. Just call him & tell him the problems you are having with the dog.

He did waive some fees, but I wish that he would have effectively and accurately communicated the status of my dog's training. I tend to give everyone the benifit of the doubt. I will act in good spirits, positive - even a bit naive and socratic just to be certain that who I'm doing business with is being straight with me.

i know Collier Kennels has produced some steller dogs and they came highly recommended by people that I know personally who have relied on Collier Kennels for stock and training for years. What was different about my situation? I don't know and I'll leave it to speculation. If I were to guess, whether realistic or not, I would say that my dog got lost in a big kennel and instead of effectively communicating the situation, CK tried to salvage and whether it became procrastination or negligence - an accurate depiction of the status of my dogs training was not painted with any precision whatsoever.

Not a problem, I'm just sorry that you didn't get what you paid for. Like CCBIRDDOG stated give James a call and discuss the issues and he should make an effort to rectify the problem.

Put me down for a plus one for Angie and Tim at Tioga Retrievers. Nice, smart folks, clean kennels, healthy happy dogs, passionate, patient.

What now??

If you're not looking at sending the dog away again you could try lessons?

Or have another pro force fetch the dog and then take over from there.

Personally I've never heard of Collier kennels. Another option is to talk to the owner. Sounds like you were dealing with an assistant.

I think you are right with your assessment of your dog slipping through the cracks.

Angie

Someone needs to email the link to this thread to Collier Kennels.

Not in his nature to be confrontational.. but there is two sides to every story. Would be nice to hear some more details.

I agree with that in all cases. That is why I would only post about a trainer whom I know for a fact will get the job done.

I sent my dog to Eddie Noga up in Bonham Tx. (www.zionkennels.com). He spent 4 months there and he is steady to shot, obed on and off lead, force fetched, and can do doubles. I would rate Zion Kennels a 9 out of 10 stars. 9 because the only way it could be a 10 is if Eddie did it for free! Haha! I recommend Zion Kennels!

I'm glad. That's positive!!!!

When a client isn't happy I want to be the first one to hear about it. I'm not going to please everyone, but it's my job to do the best job I can by my clients.

took my lab to caddo mills when he was 6 months and he was there for 6 or 7 months. scale of 1-10 i give them about a 7. reason being was that everytime i called to check on him i was told he wasnt doing this or that and i went there 4 times to see him work and never got to. the last time i went there i just went and got him out of the kennel grabbed a couple dummies snd went to the pond. spent about 30 minutes with him doing retrieves and obedience stuff and decided he was ready to go home. he retrieved good & good obedience. my biggest complaint was being made to feel like i was being a bother by calling or wanting to come watch my dog work. another thing i think is that he wanted to train a field trial dog and i wanted a hunting dog.

I would say that maybe this is why he hasn't called me back, but he has been pretty terrible about returning calls and stalling anyhow. What sucks, is I don't consider myself a problem client other than I'm too trusting perhaps - I only called once a month, AT MOST, until I was trying to schedule a time for me to go up and get the dog.

I keep getting more dissapointed the more I think about it. Especially when I took my dog to jump a tank and he about crapped himself when I shot my gun. This really sucks.... Before he left I would have my kid brother play with the dog while I would shoot (small calibers). I had him to where he didn't really even notice the gunfire. I never incorporated a direct relationship between gunfire and retrieving, but that's why I sent him to school.

I guess I should be happy that he's healthy, has good house manners, sweet as can be, loves my baby nieces - just a good dog. He's gonna make a great pet/companion.

Maybe I'll just spend the money on a started - finished dog by next dove season. I have plenty of room for both. up

Just to be clear, I E-mailed it to him because he is a good friend of mine & I wanted him to know what was being said on public forum about his business so he would have a chance to make it right (if possible). Not to make him mad at you. James is a good person & a great trainer.

This is the easiest forum I've ever seen on which to register. If someone wrote, all that's been written about me, I'd sign up and explain myself.

It's one thing to say it behind his back, but this is out in the open.
