I recently went on a duck hunt with Drake's Guide Service out of Sunset, Texas. The location was incredible and the lodge was nice, but that is about all you will encounter there. The daily rate to hunt with Drake's is $175. The daily rate for the lodge is an additional $175. The lodge is nice but not 175 nice. The hunting is not 175 dollars worth. At best it's maybe 75-100 dollars. Owner and operator Cory Anderson does not run his operation to cater to the clients needs. He is worried about one thing and one thing only, making money. The ponds/lakes that he hunts on are sometimes hunted on without the consent of the landowner and are done completely under the table. Game wardens have become accustomed to hearing about Cory and his questionable hunting methods. He overbooks hunters for the number of guides he has. He doesn't scout out ponds before sending his 175 dollar a day clients out on hunts. He has no idea about the location of several of his "blinds". I have heard him say himself that he had no idea about these blind locations. That is the problem with his operation. When the owner and operator doesn't know the location of his own blind/stand setup, I have a serious problem. Especially when I am paying 175 dollars a day. For 175 dollars, I expect to have a set blind location, birds to be scouted out and no more than 4-5 hunters. On the last day of my hunt, we had 7 total hunters plus our guide (too many). Our hunt was cut short because the guide was told to hunt in a certain location that was on another owners land. We were told we were trespassing by the game warden(called by the pissed off land owner) and had to leave by 845-9. As we were leaving, ducks began pouring in naturally. This situation would have never happened had the area been scouted out like it should have been. My experience with them was one of an overpriced, overbooked, money money money now instead of repeat business, no scouting, and illegaly hunting. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS PLACE. I'm sure there are other duck hunting guides that will earn what they charge and put out the effort to find the birds, tell you whether or not they actually have birds, and make sure you have fun doing it. I can't say that about this place. There will be no repeat business here and I would advise looking for other guides before even considering there services.

don't know if that is true or not, but there have been some bad reviews.

tresspassing huh, that would surely hack me off if a guide got me in trouble with the law.

It's not a first class-grade A operation. It's at best some guys horrible attempt to say he is a "duck guide" and try and swindle money away from people. Don't waste your time. I'd rather deal with honest, down home, down to earth people than a snake. This guy is a snake.

yes trespassing. this happened yesterday. the game warden told us this was not the first time this has happened and Cory Anderson's name has come up in regards to trespassing on other ranchers land and other violations. steer clear.

I told them I was not paying for any part of that hunt. Cory (owner) wanted payment still!!!! He is crazy! I did not stay at the lodge. I stayed at the Best Western in Bowie. Payed 213 bucks for 2 days split 3 ways (70) as opposed to 350 bucks for 2 days at the lodge per person. The hotel was nicer.

we shot 4 birds our first day....our second day we didn't even get to shoot because the game warden pulled up with a pissed of land owner and said we were trespassing and had to get out. I am positive that I was not on that hunt. I think I would remember shooting that many birds. The warden said any birds we had shot would have been confiscated.

I see almost all drakes in that picture with Drakes Guide Service. Sounds like a personal vendetta. I have talked to Cory multiple times and he seems like a decent guy, I am not callin you a liar- this just seems too bad to be true for a well known guide service.

Well this isn't the first complaint we have had about this guide service. Where there is smoke there is fire. Just a thought.

Just cause you have talked to him on the phone doesn't make this not true. Go hunt with him. I'm sorry but i am gonna take the advice from someone that has actually don't business with the guise service.

gotcha,

if all of this is true, then he deserves what he gets.

Be interesting to see if he defends himself.

bad businesses don't stick around long.

If it's not true, well, I hope it's not true.

I have to agree with this alittle. Business and Buddies are two different things. Alot of good people I know couldnt run a business successfully.

If that is true it is very disturbing. It's bad enough to make your hunts look better by piling up birds.

What's more disturbing is not cleaning your birds in a timely manner. One of the things I hate to see is people stacking up birds just to impress. Part of respecting nature is to respect these birds and make sure their meat is eaten, and that their carcasses are treated with respect.

Screw it I'll make myself known, I guided for this service this year and just quit today and shoulda quit much sooner. As for the 2 other guides besides me that worked for him couldn't be nicer people and should go work for somebody that runs a proper operation and who will give them respect. If you want more information just PM me
