What would you guess the ratio is for guys that eat some of the hog or how many just leave where it fall. Put in your 2 cents and lets see how it goes. rifle stir up

Pretty much same with us. If somebody doesn't want it they are given away to someone who does.

If it's in the trap we always give it to our buddy's church group.
If we shoot a sow, it's sausage in the freezer.

If it dies, it fries... or smokes, bakes, broils, or my fave - braises in a dutch oven with a bit of fruit wood smoke to finish...

I know folks who don't have. If I do then they do. Too many hungry people to throw it all away.

Eat the sows and young boars. Leave the bigger boars.

we killed 110 hogs so far this calendar year. We might have not butchered 8. those were sick, injured or a boar that stunk so bad it wouldn't be fair to who you gave it to. There is always someone that will take fresh meat.

I know I feel good when I give a family with several kids an Ice chest of quartered up meat. I even show them how to bone it if I have time and give them ideas on how to cook it.

Really leaving them in the field to rot because you don't want to clean them is a waste. I know it is your right and if you can live with it then good, I just know that the hugs and gratitude from families for fresh meat is worth the time we spend dressing them out.

But a dead hog is a good hog any way you shake it.

Depends on the size and time of year. I am not cleaning one when it's 100 degrees outside- no matter what size it is.

we will not eat boars more than 150 pounds but we will eat sows up to 250 so we eat pretty much all of the hogs.

I try not to waste them but have caught around 100 this year so we either sale em, eat em if they are good eating size, donate to charity or leave them lay....

I killed or been a part of 67 hogs this year and have cleaned only 4 left the rest where they fell. About 7 or 8 years ago I cleaned everyone we shot.

If I am only taking the backstrap I dont even hang em. Its just as quick with them laying on their stomach. I eat the more desireble ones(small sows) and I don't feel bad as we have so many.

Eat every one I kill but I am more selective on the meat I take from them than say a deer. I make pulled pork from the legs and chops from the back strap, I don't use the rest.
