I'm looking for a place near Abilene that's good for hog hunting, money is a big issue, so the cheaper the better. I've heard that occasionally there are farmers that just want the pigs off of their land, and would be willing to let hunters get on for free. Are there any public lands or farmers that are looking just to get rid of hogs here around Abilene?

check out land and leases section txcornhusker said he had a few open dates in march, he is probably the cheapest hog hunt in the area left.If you just want some wild hog meat then the post hogs for sale between olney and jacksboro would probably be your best bet.Other than that good luck and happy hunting.

Really I'm a little more interested in the pursuit, not just some meat. I'm a student at ACU so time and money are limited resources right now

Welcome to The Forum.

I second the recommendation on TCH. You can look around and you might find a farmer or rancher that will have some hog hunting, but it will probably cost, as most folks are charging now.

As far as your comment about the pursuit factor, if you haven't ever really hunted hogs before, there is not a lot of pursuit involved. Most landowners aren't going to want you, or let you go wandering around their property.

Additionally, hogs have large home ranges and they may not be bedding on the place you find to hunt on. Also, even if they haven't been pressured a lot, which is going to be hard to find a place where they aren't being shot at on a regular basis, their favorite time to move and feed is usually just before dark, or at night.

Good Luck with your search, but give TCH a call and he might have something available.

I will chime in, and also give TexasCornHusker the edge He is dirt cheap and he will do everything he can to get you on some hogs. He was almost full, so you need to check with him quickly. Jason is a great guy and a great time and hunt are in the package

Thanks for the recommendations guys!! Awful nice words!

We are not booking anymore hunts. I am as full as I want to be right now.

Hey jmac, I hope you find a place to hunt around there. Wish I could help you out. I'll keep my ears open for you as well.!!

While it's not free, I can recommend the Dos Plumas Ranch in Trent (www.dosplumasranch.com). The owner, Allen Williams, is a terrific guy and he has an excellent facility.

Check 'em out, and tell him I sent you.

Jmac, We have a place about 25 min. South of Abilene with plenty of hogs. If you can wait till deer season is over, we can fix you up for free. Only thing is, you'll have to hunt at night. Let me know.
