Hey I noticed that the most expensive duck calls are always acrylic. While cocobolo and other woods are less expensive. So what is the real advantage of acrylic over wood? Is it the sound reverberating off the toneboard?

Material costs have alot to do with it.

acrylics are typically loader and not as raspy.

Wood can sometimes have a tendency to pull in moisture, causing a differnet sound in the call.

Personally, I like my $75 bocote call over my $125 acrylic. It just sounds dirty.

if price is an issue, check out buck gardners calls, sound great and don't stick and won't cost as much as other call makers. Try a double nasty.

The main reason that acrylic calls are more expensive is that they are harder to make, takes more time, harder on the tools, more difficult to polish.

I've been making my own calls for the last 6 years. I personally use an acrylic insert in my hunting calls. I just love the way they sound. But I always put em in a wood barrel, Gotta have that wood, makes it feel real.
