There is a guy that I know that, he does not tag all of his deer at all. He will tag some but he has killed 6 deer this season, during gun season. How do you approach someone like, so you dont get in trouble if you are with him if he gets caught?

Don't ever hunt with a poacher to start with. If you have any proof turn his arse in.

Don't be with him. You are just as guilty as him in the GW's mind.

Apparently the guy doesn't make a secret out of his unethical hunting practices. Turn his butt in. You don't have to tell the GW your name. Folks like that guy are not hunters and should have their hunting privileges taken away. They give the rest of us "real" hunters a bad rep.

How can game wardens prove that you shot too many deer if they are in your freezer and have already be processed? I still have the tags from everything I shot in Montana last year along with a letter aknowledging some meat was gifted to me. But here in taxas, I gave my tag to the processor and that was the end of it.

Your receipt from the processor acts as a substitute for the tag, if you get stopped with the antlers on the way home from the processor.

I don't know the answer but I'd think if someone turned you in for shooting too many deer and not tagging them, then he comes and searches your freezer and it is full of meat it would raise questions. Then if you still have all your tags attached to your license that would look bad too.

Personally I think the "turn him in" crowd is out of control here. What you are basically proposing is turning him into a game warden based on violations that you have not witnessed yourself or heard from him that he's committed. If you hunt w/ him and he does something like that and you witness it, it's an entirely different matter. Based on someone else's hearsay it's just slander (libel in this case). You don't know what he's done - you haven't witnessed anything for yourself, further you dont' know where these alleged deer were taken or what the circumstances were, such as taking deer w/ a LAMPS permit ( http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/business/permits/land/wildlife_management/lamps/) which doesn't require you to pull a tag off your license, you tag w/ the LAMPS tags. How would you feel if TPWD put this guy through hell based on your call and he had done nothing wrong? Save the phone calls and righteous indignation for violations that you can verify. David

If he is truly breaking the law, call operation game thief and talk to them. That is all you can really do and they can handle and get it off your conscience.
If he hunting lamps or mld, then he ain't going to be bragging about not tagging deer anyway.

I believe if you will re-read the OP's posts nowhere does he state that the individual in question was bragging about not tagging deer. He said he didn't tag all his deer and had discussed w/ the OP's uncle. Maybe the OP's uncle doesn't fully understand the tagging requirements.
My standards for a "clear conscious" lean much more heavily towards not making unsupported accusations. Personally, I hope that a completely unsubstantiated accusation like this would be dismissed out of hand by operation game thief - if not, then we're all just one step away from the PETA type wacko groups calling in violations on all of us on a routine basis.

Have a talk with the land owner and let them know what is going on, also ask for him to be removed from the lease if that is what you want.
