And wear your wader belt. Keeps water from filing you up if you turn over. Just be prepared for everything you got to get wet! Haha. Should be fun, there are some places that are just right for those things.

Bring a headlamp, dummy cord anything you don't want to lose to yourself, and WEAR A PFD!!! Also, I keep a knife handy in case I turtle so I can get out of my waders ASAP. Good luck and shoot 'em in the mouth...

Life Jacket, my dog would probably tip me over riding to my hunting spot in a kyak.

I sunk my Sneak boat this morning! The wind picked up like crazy and my boat's back end went under and that's all she wrote. I was able to get all my gear, dog, and boat near the shore. I bailed it out and pull it along the shore in chest deep water all the way back. Be Careful with the wind! So you don't go swimming like I did.

As others said it still can not be said too often PFD!!!! Every thing in and on the 'yak will get wet. Stay close to shore and tether paddle to 'yak. Remember sudden movements in a 'yak tend to turn out bad. I have paddled rivers and fly fished rivers and streams in a 'yak without a care. Let it get dark on a lake and I am in a 'yak and anxiety pops up for me. I do not understand why moving water I am relaxed, but flat still water I am nervous. First be safe and second enjoy!

I do not hunt from a kayak, but I have some yakkin experience.

I advise practicing some deep water re-entry. Until you have actually done it wearing all the junk you plan on wearing, you really won't have any idea how dificult it will be.

Some yaks may require you to have a paddle float to get back in. Some may require you to pump out after having flipped.

Be prepared, and most of all, wear a PFD appropriate for paddling.

definitely do it again! only 1 other hunter on the whole lake today. it's public, but no full size boat ramps and very difficult to acces by foot. in west texas you take what you can get.

Paddling in the dark still weirds me out a little bit, but, if you can just go slow, take a deep breath and relax, sometimes nothing is better than paddling on a calm night with the stars and moon out with just the sound of water dripping off your paddle.
