I cant stand hogs, it doesnt matter how many we kill they keep coming back. They tear everything up, eat our corn, and compete for native wildlife. Most of the people that have hogs on their place hate them and those that dont want them to have something to shoot at during the off season, but when they get so overpopulated it just gets old. Does anyone else have the same mindset that i do?

They are fun to shoot but yeah they are a royal pain. We can't even drive through any fields on our deer lease because they are so rooted up by the hogs.

I kind of have a hate-love thing for the hogs. You are correct in that they tear everything up etc. and keep coming back for more despite our efforts to slow them down. The part I love is shooting them. My sons also like to shoot them. The first day of deer season(rifle) last year they said that they wanted to shoot a big hog instead of a big deer! I was a bit surprised. I have shot 6 hogs with my bow this year but I'm ready for a big deer to show up. Hopefully the hogs won't keep them away. I guess in the end I am thinking more along the lines like you but they are fun to shoot.

Not my land, huntin is not that great there to begin with, and now we have to deal with AR's , so I like havin um!

i love to hunt em, but part of that love is because of the thousands of dollars they cost my family every year..... i like the people that get all upset when u dont eat em after killing em, wonder if those same people eat rats that they catch in the house....

i dont think flies and spiders apply as much as rats and maybe even oppossums and stuff like that, that could be found in the house/garage. a hog is a vermin, just like a rat

we keep them pretty well in check so they are fun and a way to recoop cost and a reason to go year round instead of just going to lease and work , makes it understandable to wife

JMO but, 9 out of 10 of the dog hunters are the problem not the solution to the hog problem. Dont get me wrong you can catch a lot of hogs with dogs, been there and done it.
But most of the hardcore dog hunters never kill hogs they just want to "play" with them, tie them up and ride around with them, only to put them out on your land/ lease when they are done so they can come back and "help" you out with your hog problem later. Make sure they kill all they catch before leaving your property and never let them Guide anyone either.Sorry guides , guide on your own land/ lease and we will all get along. If you don't believe this just keep your eyes and ears open in your area. You will learn what I did after hunting with some of these types. These are facts not speculation.

Yea never heard of letting a hog live or dropping it off on another property. Big fines to be had. You can only sell to approved buying stations.

Anyhow I love hogs. They are smart, tasty, and you can kill them year round. They tear stuff up yes. But folks should share there privalige of hunting property with folks that dont have it or cant afford it. There are a lot of people that would be more than happy to hunt them. And eat them. I know you cant trust everyone but there are tons of people that are good people. Myself am one of them. My familys property is 3 hrs away. I cant get there to hunt as much as I would like. So anyone around austin round rock area that has a hog problem let me know. I will help you out.

It didn't take long for it to start getting deep. They all kill some. The problem is the ones that they don't kill and let loose later. They are careful who they tell/show about this side of the hoggin.

ur right woods, its the dog hunters fault for spreading hogs all over north america, get real! even if some of the dog runners dont kill every pig, its not making the problem worse. Ive been hunting with dogs for about 7 or so yrs now and have yet to meet someone , or hunt with someone that does not kill the hog, or sell it.

Also, dogs are part of the problem. Whats happens is the dog people run the hogs onto neighbors land. Well, neighbor man gets tired of hogs, calls the dog people, and the hogs move back to where they were originally. Kill all of them, and shoot even if it will just wound them.

Because it is costing the landowners money to hire the dogs, but the hog population is still on the increase. They are just running the pigs around.

Guys......If you are having hog problems, do not blame anyone else but your self. Time for different tactics if the ones you are using are not working.

I run dogs and you are right there are people out there who give it a bad name but there are also alot people out there who run around with guns shooting pigs a bad name. Or people who give hunting a bad rap in generel. It sucks that there are those people out there. All methods work well when used the right way and I think you should have multiple means when trying to take out a few pigs. Every place is different and every land owner wants it handled different ways. As far as guides if you dont think there are alot of people out there who remove hogs for land owners by shooting them and guide people shooting hogs with high powered rifles There are. I think there just needs to be commucation with the land owners and make sure everyone is on the same page with what you can and cant do. Most ranchers love to saddle up the horse and run some dogs. Me and people I know kill or catch alive then sale the pigs caught. I have also barred alot of pigs for ranchers and game ranches because their hunters like the pigs getting big with big ol cutters.

I've never been paid a cent for running my dogs, and with most of my landowners, if they heard I let a hog go, it would be the last time I hunted there. Woods Plumber, you have obviously had a run in with some dirty hog doggers, and it seems to have sort of soured you on the whole deal, that's too bad. Don't blame us all. That is no different than saying all rifle hunters drive around on county roads with spotlights.

As far as dogs being part of the hog problem, I don't see it that way. Yes, hunting pressure can move hogs off a piece of property, whether it is by gun or dog. If I was just running the hogs around, and not catching any I sure wouldn't be feeding dogs to do it for me. I can chase hogs with my pickup if I want to. In my OPINION if you want a to try and reduce the population, a combination of shooting, trapping, and dogs can be real effective.

I've never had any experience with dogs, just relaying what Kevin grant has told us at a meeting for our wildlife society. And Kevin is a varmint control specialist in Oklahoma, so I. Think he's a credible source.

If that's how he makes his living, he most likely is pretty credible, my only question is, how much has HE been around dog hunting.

I want to find them people who pay hog hunters to come hunt!!! I have never heard of anybody paying someone to come catch hogs. I dont see how people blame dog runners. I've been huntin hogs with dogs for a long time and dogs are the best way to control hogs. Yes the hogs move on to somebody else, but you start shootin them and they will move too!! We have caught 18 hogs in one day with dogs. You add up the pigs that died from us takin their mom its alot more than you can possibly shoot unless your john wayne of course.

Well, he did graduate from here in Texas, Tarleton to be specific. And I guess you call me and my friends johnny wayne, because between us 3 in about 4 hours of spotlighting, we have wiped out 20+ in a night. Thats with an SKS, .270, amd a 30-30. Anyway to hunt a dog is awesome for sure, and its fun, he just told us about the control of hogs.

ahhh, prime conditions, i guaruntee u that if u come out to the more wooded country u would have trouble getting 20 pigs in 4 hours, but if u have enough dogs it can be done, but not witha rifle.

hate 'em with a passion... we've had weeks where we have killed 40-50 of them and they stay away for a while and then come back with reinforcements. It's a never ending cycle.

running dogs is alot of fun,good rush and never practice catch and release.Have had many dog training days where we were so far in the swamps we just stabbed and went to the next hog and called it a good day for training.

I live in florida an i hate hogs simply because they dig up evrything....EVERYTHING. but i gotta say i lov'em too, they give me something to do for practically free. an if any yall crazy texans are havin a hard time gettin rid of them dam, may god have mercy on our lawns, crops, an flower gardens! Back to the original question... We can hate what hogs do, but ought to remember that they're only doing what they have to in order to survive. If we're gonna get mad at anything, I think it ought to be the folks who set the hogs loose in the first place, especially the ones who do it so's they'll have something to hunt. The hogs survive, turn feral, and multiply faster than rabbits. They do it so well that now we have farmers & ranchers losing thousands of dollars because of the damage the animals do, in spite of people's best efforts to thin them out.

While I usually only hunt what I'm wanting to eat, I got no problem capping more hogs than I can put in the freezer. Kinda like killing roaches. Makes the ranch owner happy, makes me happy, and makes the buzzards happy. Win win.

Ture, Ron and then someone might let me hunt property close to me for free instead of wanting me to pay hundreds of dollars to kill what they do not want anyway.

I hunt WMA land mostly and they are everywhere. Most of the time when I go to the woods I here or see them and with deer it's kind of like fishing and you start seeing gar everywhere then that's all there is. Stupid hogs!
I talked to a gentleman that works for the state back in August that is supposed to start and erradication program in our area. He said the way they will do it they will remove hundreds of them at a time. I'm not really sure exactly what they will do, but they did this at home in Louisiana and pretty much wiped them out by building hog traps that were in acreage sizes instead of square footage. They could capture over 100 of them at a time and that got rid of them. They just shot them in the trap and left them laying for the buzzards and the coyotes to eat.

I hate hogs. In highschool that's how I made my money..Killin' pigs. Can't even begin to fathom the number of pigs me and my two buddies I worked with have caught or killed. Nearly paid for all of the 04' 2500 Ram in my driveway.

Went to college and the only job open at the school farm was the hog farm. Go figure. Spent 6 months there and left the college, a year later I was back, and finally after two years of raising pigs I'm done with it for good. Learned a lot from those domesticated ones and now I really love to get after 'em.

This is a voluntary I see on this forum all the time. Honestly I believe that 95% of these people on here that complain about their hog problems are full of stuff and don't have that bad of a problem. I have a friend who has hogs and they do at times get to be a problem and that's when he does let others go out there and kill them. Granted it's folks he knows or that we (his friends) take with us but still. He wants them dead and we kill them.

I love the little bastages. Gives me something to do when I cant shoot deer and dont feel like fishing. We have a pretty good population of hogs at our place, and I feed them year round. I put panels up at one feeder so that the deer and cows cant get to it, but the hogs can. They tear up the wheat fields in some areas of the property, but thats the price you pay.
