Ok...I was tired of feeding just corn. I asked the guy at the local elevator what else folks were using. He suggested horse and mule feed. WOW...the deer have been going crazy. You can't put it in the feeder...you just have to spread it. Worth the try. Thought I would share...awesome stuff.

Really? I wish we could be more creative with feeds. Cows on the place. Corn is the only thing they can't really pick up off the ground.

i know you guys have heard of comeer deer that walmart sells that hank parker come up with. it's over 90% rice bran. next time you are in walmart read the ingredients on the bag deer love it. i know texas raises lots of rice so it should be available there. most pour it on the ground but i feed it in a trough with a roof over it so the rain won't wash it away. when i first start feeding it i mix allgrain which is several grains with molasses mixed with it. the deer smell that and come to the trough. once they get the rice bran you can stop the all grain. or keep mixing it either one. i feed it in my back yard and have had as many as 7 bucks in the back yard at one time. they are eating 200 lbs a week in the back yard now. i also have a spin feeder in the back yard with corn. coons will get one third of your corn.

I have a gravity feeder with the pellets mixed with corn and a regular feeder in the same feed pen photos show the bucks with their noses stuck in the gravity feeder and seldom if ever eating corn off the ground. The pellets came from Tractor supply about $6 50lbs. It is a 55 gal. drum on legs with a toliet flange

I put up 2 protein feeders and filled them with sweet feed. Have yet to see a deer eat it. But the cows sure love it!

Yes, it is a sweet feed that as the name implies is fed to horses and mules. We always mixed it with oats when we fed it to our horses. I would imagine deer would like it, but have never used any for deer
