Does anyone remember those handwarmers that look like a
big silver cigarette lighter and used lighter fluid?
Are those still sold somewhere? I had one when I was a
kid,and you could light that thing and toss it in the foot
of your sleeping bag and be good to go.

What about those Thermacell bug killers? Anyone use
those regular? The rains have brought out the skeeters
bad. . .

Yep... Sportsmans Guide has EVERYTHING!

Thermocells are the one of the best inventions in the last 20 years! Yes, they work and are worth every penny if you hunt in the bottoms.

Thermocell is a God send like manna!

Only thing about it is you can't really walk around with it. The smoke just wafts away.

used my thermocell last weekend when the skeeters got bad and they were outa there in a quick minute or two.

i can smell my thermocell burning though... does this happen to ya'll too? it is worth having one even if the deer can smell it!

I would have a thermacell even if the deer could smell it. The skeeters were so bad this year, I wouldn't have been able to hunt without it. It is the best mosquito repellent ever made.

I broke down a bought a thermocell a few weeks ago, it works really well. I would have been swiss cheese without it.

what I should have asked is if the Thermacell can be
used in an encloseed space like a blind or tent or
will the thing kill you with the fumes?

I found one of those silver handwarmers called a
Joni handwarmer.
I think the one I had way back in the 70's was
about $5.00 instead of $15.00 though. . . .

another question. . . .
I found one of those Jon-e warmers, but I cant seem
to keep the thing lit. . .
I've followed instructions to the letter, but as soon
as the thing goes in the little red velvet bag,it goes out
I remember the one I had in my teens had a little heating
element wrapped in screen wire and a wick that went down
in the base
that sucker stayed HOT all day! !(when placed in the bag)
this one I just got has a fiberglass-type element that doesnt
touch the cotton in the base, and there is a gap of about 3/8
of an inch between where the absorbent material ends and where
the bottom of the burner-wick is when in place
is something missing or am I just still doing it wrong?
it's hotter than a piece of charcoal before I put it
in the bag. . .

????????????????????????????

I always smelled it. I shot a doe at less than 50 yards away with the wind in her favor. Didnt bother her at all.

Don't know why you'd want to use one of those old handwarmers when you could just buy some of those "hothands" or handwarmer chemical packs. They're dirt cheap and IMO work 10xs better without the hassle of keeping something lit, and will work up to 10 hrs. Just open a few and throw 'em in the bottom of your bag and you're good to go.

On the other hand, the Thermocell is a gift from God!! I believe they were first developed to spread doe-in-estrus scents though and sort of found a niche in the bug repellent market, but maybe that was just a rumor I heard....

Regards,
Scott

I have used some of those tear open and shake heat
packs,I've got some in my gear box right now,but
the ones I've used only seem to get "warm" and not
toasty like I want
I'll figure out something. . . . . .
